Laughs, Lessons, & Looks!
Gabbi, the Antisocialite is a digital diva, brand scientist, and fashion curator from Pittsburgh, PA. She genuinely believes that you are born with your passions. She was born original, lost herself a bit, and found that light again! Just like she was doing at 10 years old - she is currently immersed & growing in her favorite activities. Making websites (which was then making MySpaces and PicArt), curating art, events & content (which was then burning and decorating CDs and having top notch slumber parties) and working in fashion (which was then doing living room fashion shows for her mom).
As an only child she didn’t have a rough childhood, but it was sometimes lonely. She had great friendships and a supportive family, but when she was without them, she found herself trying to fit in a lot. Those are, to this day the ONLY TIMES she has regretted decisions in life. The Antisocialite originated in 2015 - when she decided to reclaim herself and be unapologetically HERSELF. It sometimes comes off as antisocial because she enjoys her peace but in reality, she loves people and definitely considers herself a socialite. Hence, the name!
How would you describe your style?
I would consider my style to be STATEMENT SIMPLE. I like a bomb statement piece - could be the clothing, the shoe, the hair. From there - I coordinate all the little things around it. The little simple things add up and make a truly cohesive look.
Tell us about All Hail the Hips and the inspiration behind it.
All Hail The Hips was originally an idea for a fashion blog. I was going to open the floor to women of all shapes and sizes to talk about things regarding our bodies: fashion, hygiene, society/representation, etc. I do discuss a lot of that on my personal page. I felt that with my history of styling and my passion for aesthetic - I could cater to women in a tangible way as well. I am working my hardest to bring affordable clothing to curvy girls so that being comfy and cute isn't a chore!
If you could be a celebrity stylist who would you want to style and why?
I would love to style Meg Thee Stallion. Her body is everything and her mind is even more amazing. I met her for (LITERALLY) two seconds and she's definitely as tall and perfect as she looks online.
If you could give advice to anyone getting started with their brand, what would it be?
RESEARCH. Do your due diligence. Be original. Be true to yourself. Be consistent. Be open to criticism but don't let it make or break you. It's YOURS - and that's a big deal.
Do you have any mentors or entrepreneurs that you look up to?
I have so many but my top three are definitely Kyshira Moffett, CEO of the Power Collective; Jai Nice, CEO of Kloset Envy, and Irregular Jess, CEO of Irregular Exposure!
What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur, as well as the most rewarding part?
The uncertainty of everything in entrepreneurship is definitely haunting. Will this work out? Will I lose money? Will anyone even want this? It's alot. But the most rewarding part is watching your passion help other people. It's like - "yeah, this is what I'm supposed to be doing."
How do you feel about the Pittsburgh fashion and creative scene compared to creative scenes you’ve visited in other cities? Is there anything you would change here?
Creatively - Pittsburgh’s scene is up there with many major cities I've been to. I even feel like we have a cool niche of our own. We don't have a lot of modern architecture or beautiful weather - so we have to work harder and smarter to impress. I guess the only thing I'd change is convincing people to try something new! A lot of Pittsburgher's like to go where they know. I'm guilty of it too!
What is your favorite event you’ve put together in Pittsburgh?
HalloMEME was by far my favorite event so far. I had a meme themed halloween party and it was such a vibe! People from every side of town, every walk of life - just vibing, dancing, drinking, snacking, and socializing. I had BIG FUN and I NEVER have fun at my own events - I'm usually too stressed!
What type of events do you hope to see more of in the future?
I am really working on making events that are meaningful and memorable. These crazy times and this pandemic has changed us forever. FOR ME - it's going to take something very special to make me come outside and socialize. So I am constantly pushing myself to raise the bar and offer you guys some amazing options in the future!
What can we expect to see from you next?
From me - you can expect laughs, lessons, and LOOKS! And that's forever.
